Distant past
The Ancient Era
A glimpse of a wilder Eterra before the familiar kingdoms and empires. Its untamed landscapes give the later world a sense of deep history.

A journey through Eterra
A world seen through time. Ancient wonders, fallen empires and a future threatened by the Void.

From the game library
Last Epoch is currently being explored for the game library, with attention to its lore, artwork, graphics and gameplay.
This is a lore introduction rather than a in-depth gaming article. Partner articles will appear separately once they have been submitted and approved.
The story at a glance
Last Epoch takes place in Eterra, a world whose history is part of the adventure itself. As the Traveller, you cross different eras and see the same world under changing powers. The future reveals what is at stake: the Void has consumed much of the world, leaving survivors fighting to preserve what remains.
The time-travelling artefact known as the Epoch connects that struggle to earlier ages. Rather than learning about a lost civilisation only from its ruins, you can encounter its past. The central question is whether understanding and changing the course of history can prevent the devastation ahead.

The journey moves between eras rather than following history in a straight line. These are the broad settings to recognise as the story unfolds.

The age of gods
Powerful gods and their followers shape Eterra. Conflict among these forces brings the Traveller into a struggle far larger than a single journey.
An empire of undeath
The Immortal Emperor’s rule has transformed the world. The power of the undead empire and the people resisting it reveal another stage in Eterra’s decline.
A threatened future
The Void has overwhelmed much of Eterra. The scattered remnants of life show what may become of the world if its history cannot be changed.

The End of Time sits outside the ordinary sequence of Eterra’s eras. Through the Monolith of Fate, the game also explores alternate timelines: possibilities that differ from the history of the main campaign. These are different versions of what might happen, which helps explain why familiar places and enemies can return in a new context.
That distinction is useful when following the lore: a Monolith timeline is not automatically the next chapter of the main story.

We’re paying attention to the scenery as we explore: the architecture, colour, lighting and environmental details that make each age feel different. Seeing beauty and ruin within the same world is part of what draws us to Eterra.
This is a spoiler-light introduction to Eterra’s setting. We’ll form our own view of the game through play.
